Youth

The Flint congregation is proud of our youth.  Our youth fully participate in our work because we do not believe that the youth are the “the church of the future” but that the youth are the “church of right now”.  Brother Michael (Big Red) James is the Deacon supplying capable leadership to our youth program.  The following are a small selection of the many activities.

Worship – Our youth fully participate in our regular worship and edification activities as appropriate.  Our young men lead singing, prayer, and bible reading.  Our young ladies teach bible class. We have year round Lads-to-Leaders program that encourages participation.

Congregational Service – As part of our congregation, our youth also serve in various support roles including operating the audio visual equipment for service, editing our web site, and even cleaning the building.

Community Service - We participate in various service projects organized with other congregations, with our congregation and as individuals. This includes such activates are yard work for the infirmed, home remodeling, litter pick-up, Relay for Life, wrapping Christmas presents, storm recovery, and RAKE opportunities.

Exposure Youth Camp (EYC) – We recently added EYC to our rich schedule of youth activities.  EYC is an activity that encourages spiritual growth among young people. Set in Atlanta in December, this venue provides an opportunity for spiritual development over the Christmas break.

Challenge Youth Conference (CYC) - Each year we send a group to CYC to meet the needs of our church teenagers who are growing up in a society that often is indifferent to living a life for Christ. The mission of CYC is to present a program utilizing solid and sound scriptural emphasis. Set in beautiful Pigeon Forge in the spring, this venue is one of our most popular.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) – Our VBS in June each year focuses on the younger kids, but many of our teens participate as co-teachers.  Each VBS is a themed production with specialized characters, sets and activities.  Past VBS have had Archeology, Westerns, Jungles, and Nautical themes.

Maywood Christian Camp – Flint is part of the Jackie Fox Camp, one of nine week long camps. It occurs in late July and early August of each summer.  This camp is directed Chris Pressnell, our pulpit minister. He selects a dedicated group of counselors and other support staff to operate the week of camp. Everyone works hard to help the campers have fun and, more importantly, encourage, motivate, and teach them to be better Christian young people.

SOAR stands for "Seeking Our Awesome Redeemer" and is a weekend Youth Rally that the Central Church of Christ (Augusta, GA) puts on each year for 6th-12th graders around the southeast. This is our first year with SOAR.  Our Youth deacon, Michael James will be conducting some of the experiences at the weekend camp March 20-22, 2015.

Trunk or Treat – We sponsor a safe environment for trick or theaters each Halloween.  The event has grown to include many fall festival activates like games, face painting, and costumes.

Area Wide Devotionals – One week each month we participate in Area Wide Devotionals hosted by our sister congregations on a rotating basis.  The devotionals usually follow the scheduled Sunday night services.  Some are held in conduction with ice or roller skating.
